Commissioned as part of Jatulintarha, a series of photographic exchanges between Northern Finland and Northern England, Summerhouse is a series of images responding to the British interpretation of the Finnish Summerhouse. In Finland many people have a family Summerhouse, often quite basic and isolated, in the woods and lakes of the Finnish countryside, Finns traditionally spend as much of the summer as possible in this way. In Britain the imported wood cabin is rented by the week, surrounded by other matching cabins and with big picture windows that look out onto the un-picturesque. People carry out their lives in this rented space and then pack up and go home, to be replaced by another group.
